SWIM CLASSES

FOR ALL AGES & LEVELS

Swimming Techniques

Swimming techniques make all the difference for both beginner swimmers and serious swim athletes.

The proper swim stroke is vital to speed and efficiency in swimming- it greatly helps swimmers increase their speed of swimming during competitions.

Learning the proper swimming technique is best accomplished at a young age when first learning to swim. However, even adults who are first learning to swim can develop the proper techniques with the proper set of instructions.

We assign students to various levels of training. We take into account the student's age, level of swimming ability and his or her swimmer goals.

We train our swimmers on the four main competitive strokes- freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

Each of these strokes have specific arm and leg movements, as well as respective breathing techniques that are important to performing the stroke effectively and accurately.

Of these four main swim strokes, the front crawl, otherwise known as the freestyle is the fastest style of swimming. Therefore, it is the most widely used by swimmers of all ages and levels.

Sticking to the right training regimes and drills are a few of the many key methods to learning proper swimming techniques.

At Singapore Swim School, our swimmers train according to our in-house syllabus that aligns closely with SwimSafer and SSPA standards.

It is only under the guidance and scrutiny of professional and certified swimming coaches that swimmers be able to master strokes properly.

Then comes the stage of focusing and repeating the correct movements, such as engagement of the right muscles for each of the strokes, until performing each one becomes almost a natural reflex.

During training sessions, efficient swimmers build endurance and stamina while working on perfecting their swims strokes so as to avoid wasting energy.

The more effective the stroke, the less energy exerted to perform the stroke, the faster the swimmer swims. Consistent practice is crucial in becoming a better swimmer with proper swimming technique.

Train on difference muscle groups

Difference swimming strokes trained on the difference muscle groups. Backstroke and freestyle will use more on the torso and hip flexors muscle groups (No 1, 4 & 5 on the chart).

Butterfly will use more on the Core abdominal, lower back, Glutes and Quadriceps muscles (No 3 & 5 on the chart).

Breaststroke uses Pectoral, Latissimus dorsi , Glutes and Quadriceps muscle groups (No 2 & 5 on the chart).

Training on all the difference swim strokes will strengthen all the muscle groups and enhance overall flexibility.
